Whenever I finish one card, especially one I’ve spent quite a bit of time on, I almost always immediately start another, simpler card – sort of a cleaning of the palate, I guess. Most of this card’s parts came from my scrap basket – the lattice, the brick wall, the designer paper, the embossed frame, and the colored flowers. The flowers (Flourishes’ Butterflies & Blossoms) were begun for another project, but I switched colors and set these aside, knowing I’d use them eventually. After the flower pot card in my last post, I thought I’d make quick work of my scraps. . .
It may not look quick, but, in fact, it was mostly just a matter of putting the parts together. . . that is, until I decided to trim out the uppermost embossed panel to create a frame. Even still, that didn’t take very long with my craft knife. And, by the way, it’s the first time I’ve used this particular embossing folder. I mean, it had been embossed and set aside, but it doesn’t count until it’s used on a card, right? All of the cut filigree overlay, such as where the “Love” is stamped, is part of the Sizzix Hearts and Vine Frame embossing folder.
In the center of the card I added a border of Spellbinders Parisian accents (another first time use). I used both the positive and negative cuts to fill a little space between the brick wall and the lattice. The swirly vines are Spellbinders Floral Flourishes dies.
That’s all for this week. I have to tell you, my resolve to use a “first” on every card has brought a new level of enjoyment to my stamping. It’s as though I’ve suddenly awakened and found a roomful of new toys to play with! It’s the little things, you know. Have a great rest of the week!
