I’m getting ahead of things a little with a Father’s Day card but, frankly, I wanted to color this image and then I didn’t know what else to do with it, considering the sentiments I had available. If I’d been thinking ahead I might have printed my own sentiment for it… but, then what would it be? “Better luck next time”? or “Heard you were having some trouble”?
This is another one of those free digital images from Digital Two for Tuesday. If you like images of children, she has lots of those, including some very sweet little girl images. It’s very generous of her to share these with everyone and it sounds like great fun how she goes on the hunt for potential images – all vintage, copyright expired.
I watecolored this after printing on 90 lb hot press watercolor paper and heat setting the ink with my heat gun. It was doable, but not perfect. My printer does not use waterproof ink, which would be ideal, and I’m not sure if I want to invest in a new printer just so I can watercolor digi images. It may come to that, but not just yet.
I kept it plain and simple for a guy. You know how they are – no frilly stuff. Cute image, though!
I have to run, now. I’m trying to squeeze a lot into a little time. Story of our lives, isn’t it? I’ll be back soon. Enjoy your day!
Stamps: Boy Fishing (digital), sentiment from Flourishes’ What a Catch Paper: Chocolate Chip, Sage Shadow, 90 lb hot press watercolor, October Afternoon Fly a Kite designer paper Ink: Printer, Chocolate Chip for sentiment, various Stampin’ Up! inks for watercoloring Accessories: Ribbon, linen thread, copper nailheads, Scotch brand foam mounting tape

Cute card. Can't believe it's printed and you used watercolor without it running everywhere. Amazing!

Awesome image and gorgeous coloring of the image. Love the mix and match background. Hope Lulu got her stitches out by now and she's running and playing to her little heart's delight!

Thanks for this cute card. Wish my Dad were alive to make him one. Visited the site and yes, the images are lovely. Thanks for recommending it. You do such a sweet rendition of this image.

Awesome image and so perfectly colored as always, Leslie. Love the papers and your stitching, too.
I know what you mean about not enough time for everything!

Oh that image is too cute, you don't see alot of boy images and your watercoloring is awesome. I need to take out the time and go through her site and see what I may be able to use, that is very sweet of her.
Have a great week!

What a perfect man card! I find they are so difficult, but you've aced it. I second Lynette's comments on colouring, papers and stitching too. Nicely done. Hope LuLu's bulge is ok and that she is bouncing around with Wally. Happy Easter Monday!

Oh I love this image Leslie! You've colored it so dreamily too. Perfect for the style! That's the hardest part about digitals isn't it...trying to work the ink and keep your design! You've done a beautiful job!

Hi! Hope Lulu is doing well... I meant to post the other day when you worried about her bulge that my older dog has a bit of a bump at her incision point too. It's never bothered her, just feels weird when you scratch her tummy. I don't know if anyone else has already suggested this, but have you tried printing on a fast draft setting? It puts less ink down on the paper and with the heat setting, you might have better luck with it as long as the image quality is still acceptable. =) ~Christy

Perfect! I love the twine around the sentiment panel. And yes, I do know how guys can be. But it's not just guys. All our grown kids like the "less is more" look. Which translates: "leave off all that frilly stuff, mom" *laughing* This is a super vintage looking image and the papers look great with it. Nice Job!
Hugs,
Susie ~

I love that the sentiment references memories, the image is colored in muted colors, and the dp looks a bit faded. It has such a lovely, nostalgic feel. Beautiful!

Just like all above, this is a real beauty... so full of action and fun and the water coloring is lovely, I'm still having trouble when I print and water color... still working on it!
But looks like you have mastered the problem for sure!!

It's funny how many decisions can come into play, just for the sake of our card making, isn't it? LOL Good luck finding a good printer, if you decide to go that route. I'm in the same boat as you, but haven't really delved into digi images yet. I just stick to sentiments right now. ;)
One cannot tell you had trouble coloring this, though. It looks wonderful!

Love this card! Colored beautifully! The stitching adds the perfect touch!

a perfect pairing of sentiment and image Leslie. Anikka told me one time that she just water washed the lines to start with and then dried. The lines were blurred in the beginning, but she got over it HA!
